I want mlm RPG game isekai, please 😫
I once again tried to look for isekai with queer protagonist that is not written as BL (don’t take me wrong, I like BL, but what I am looking for is not BL isekai, but rather isekai that has queer male protagonist, because if you google “BL isekai” the results you get are mostly “porn without plot”, while I’m looking for a lot of plot instead - I don’t care how many sex scenes is there as long as there is plot that isn’t short and is intriguing so I can enjoy both the story and the romance that is going on, but sadly “BL isekai” is mostly not that) and like usual I found nothing, because apparently nobody came up with the idea that having a gay protagonist transported into isekai world in which he is surrounded by beautiful women, but has literally 0 interest in any of them and falls in love with that one guy he meets, is a great setting for a comedy. [EDIT: 14.10.2023 Why nobody told me about Kyo Kara Maoh? This is literally a mlm isekai that I looked for!]
Anyway, failing in finding male x male themed isekai that has romance as part of the story instead of the focus of the story, once again made me realize how much more interesting Raising of the Shield Hero would be if Naofumi and L’Arc were the endgame ship. Typical isekai RPG story with side romance that also falls into the drama territory due to the fact that L’Arc and Naofumi are technically enemies due to the fact that their worlds are currently fighting for survival with each other. Isn’t it thrilling when your love has obstacles similar to Romeo and Juliet story? That your love is forbidden or impossible, but you still end up having it in the end, because we are positive and don't want them all to die for the sake of their love, because hell they have to survive to save the world. Also harem just simply doesn’t fit this story.
Anyway, there is also an isekai manga that I was reading Ansatsusha de Aru Ore no Status ga Yuusha yori mo Akiraka ni Tsuyoi nodaga (My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's), and tbh this manga would also greatly benefit from mlm romance, because as far as I noticed the protagonist is treated very well by the Hero in this story, to the point that I got some fruity vibes from the Hero in regard to his Assassin classmate (the MC). Due to the setting in which the MC discovers that the Kingdom that summoned them is not to be trusted and gets driven out by the Royals, the love story between Hero and the Assassin would really complete the picture. Hell, Akira could date both the Hero and Amelia (elven girl he meets) as far as I am concerned. Polyamorous bisexual isekai, let’s go!

(I dunno how you, but this is either very good friendship or gayness).

This manga had depth of a level I have not experienced in the isekai genre and I. Am. Obsessed. You're thrown right into the action as a Japanese high school class is suddenly transported to a fantasy world where a king asks the students for help defeating an invading demonic force. They have all gained the video game-like stats menu that other citizens of the fantasy world have, and compared to regular people they have incredible skills. But no one's skills come close to Akira's. He uses his stealth as an assassin to hide his true strength and tries to figure out what's really going on, because he senses all is not as it seems. The characters in this manga really had an impact on me. The art is so beautiful and detailed, and everyone has a distinct personality. I loved seeing Akira take on his role as the underdog with a secret weapon so effectively. The plot hooked me from the beginning. There's political intrigue, secret magic, hidden agendas, and plenty of mysteries to unravel. I hope this will be longer than four volumes. I couldn't predict what would happen next and I am craving more!

My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's
by Matsuri Akai, Illustrations by Tozai
Volume 01
Story  ★★★☆☆ || ★★★☆☆   Art
Summary
Oda Akira is the kind of guy who people forget is even there. His unassuming nature pays off, though, when his entire class is swept away to a fantasy world, and he slips easily into his new role as a silent assassin. Between his suspiciously high starting stats and too many details that don’t fit, Akira is sure something is wrong. But digging into royal secrets is a dangerous game, and when Akira uncovers an evil scheme, he also makes a powerful enemy—the very king who brought him to this world! With the help of the elven spirit medium Amelia, can he find the power to set things right, and get his revenge?
Review
I tried this light novel because the idea of an entire class of kids being isekai-ed and that the assassin might be the true ‘hero’ and/or that the hero might be a red herring sounded like a fun concept. The first couple of chapters were okay as setup. It wastes no time dropping the kids in the new world and assigning magical attributes that typically match their natural talents and strengths. Akira, a loner who typically goes ignored by others, which makes him a natural fit for the assassin class. Unlike his classmates, he questions the motives and facts being fed to them.
Naturally, things are not as they seem and the plot gets a lot more interesting, with Akira being singled out by the Captain of the Guards, only for him to then be murdered and the blame put onto Akira himself as he is forced to go on the run. We also get a few other point of views, the hero, and one of Akira’s few ‘friends’ to name a couple, as they and a few others learn that some of the people who summoned them are not to be fully trusted. The overall initial mystery setup of what might be happening and getting a few more of Akira’s peers involved in the story was interesting and makes you wonder what exactly is going on in this magical world and the royal family.
Unfortunately it falls apart, for me at least, after Akira is on the run and meets an elven princess named Amelia.  I don’t know, perhaps it was just too typical a setup where our protagonist meets an insanely hot elven princess who immediately falls in love with him... and even though he is a ‘loner’ with poor social skills and comfort, it doesn’t take him long to devote himself to take care of her always and forever.  Her back story was also rather slapped together and seemed rather harsh (evil magic sister) and quickly resolved without much effort, at least for now.  It just felt OOC for him from his earlier stated personality and history.
I don’t know, the entire time they are together just killed most of my interest.  Perhaps I didn’t fully understand the genre I was expecting and that skewed by expectations. I was hoping that this one would break from the ‘formula’ and be a little more interesting. Nothing wrong with a harem building OP fantasy, but I’m just not as interested in them unless they offer something else to ‘hook’ me.
Nothing wrong with this book, just not to my personal taste (at least by the end of book 1). Perhaps I will give this one more volume and see if it develops in a way that appeals to me. The story line with the other students or the truth behind their summoning might develop into something interesting. Is it worth reading more? If I have read this series wrong, let me know, I’m open to a good story!
